The Advanced Foundation Course in Medical Art is meticulously designed to teach foundational drawing skills in traditional mediums. Good observational drawing skills are essential in medical or scientific visualisation and so this one-year course was created to guide students towards achieving true accuracy in their drawings using traditional observational techniques.
The objectives of the programme are to teach:
- Direct Observational Drawing Techniques: Observational drawing skills that perceive even the subtlest nuances in subjects.
- Precision and Communication: Skills in conveying shape, form, and texture; essential for effective visual communication.
- Play of Light and Shadow: Understand the interplay of light on form, infusing realism, and depth into compositions.
- Traditional Materials and Approaches: From drawing to watercolour – age-old techniques that breathe life into drawings.
- Approaches to a Variety of Subject Matters: Exploring an array of everyday objects, life sciences specimens and osteology treasures.
Course details:
- The structured and comprehensive curriculum is centred around nine full-day in-person seminars at the Gordon Museum, Kings’ College London, spread over three terms.
- The Course starts in October each year and concludes in July the following year.
- Students will learn techniques and skills through hands-on demonstrations, homework assignments, formative feedback, self-assessment and class critiques.
- Between seminars carefully chosen homework assignments allow you to master the skills you were taught in class.
- The MAET expert supervisors, aim to assist each student to build a rich, diverse and polished portfolio of high quality artworks.
